Certified Athletic Trainers

Certified athletic trainers are trained to evaluate, treat, rehabilitate and prevent sports injuries. Working in high school, college, clinical or professional athlete settings, they play an important role in reducing the serious effects of injury and helping people return to an active lifestyle.

MSM is the official sports medicine provider for the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn., and the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association. That means our athletic trainers provide on-site athletic training services to 32 area high schools and at such events as the USA Soccer Cup Tournament. You'll find our athletic trainers and MSM doctors at every MSHSL-sponsored state tournament, assuring continuous care for athletes, injury to return-to-play.

Other services provided by athletic trainers through our rehabilitation partner, the Institute for Athletic Medicine, include:

24-Hour Athletic Medicine Hotline: An injury hotline staffed by athletic trainers who answer calls about sports-related injuries 24/7. In the metro area, call the Athletic Medicine Hotline at 952-920-8850.

Free Injury Screening: Injured athletes may schedule a free injury screening at one of 24 Institute for Athletic Medicine clinics. A sports physical therapist or athletic trainer will evaluate the injury and recommend a treatment plan or send you to see a sports medicine doctor.

Pre-Season Fitness/Injury Assessments: Sports physical therapists and certified athletic trainers provide pre-season fitness/injury assessments before fall and winter sports seasons for local high schools and colleges. Doctors are also available for physical exams or for special concerns and further evaluation.

Coaches Workshops: Certified athletic trainers offer coaches workshops on such topics as handling emergencies, injury evaluation and treatment, first aid, and taping techniques. Workshops are presented in lecture and hands-on training formats.
