Education and Research Leaders
Minnesota Sports Medicine is at the forefront of consumer and professional education and research. We’re one of a handful of sports medicine centers nationally to blend progressive research with education and community outreach, bringing the latest in sports medicine knowledge to sports medicine providers, active people, parents and coaches.
Education: As Minnesota’s largest provider of sports medicine continuing education, MSM offers weekly sports medicine conferences and two, two-day conferences each year, reaching an estimated 4,000 professionals annually.
MSM’s ACGME-accredited Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship has graduated more than 34 orthopaedic physicians since 1991. Our Sports Physical Therapy Residency is one of 10 in the country.
Research: We conduct clinical research to advance the field of sports medicine and apply it to patient care. Physicians, physical therapists and others interested in research work with MSM’s research director and doctorate-level research associates to identify interests and assist in research design and implementation, subject recruitment, data analyses and more. Research areas include knee surgery and agility, running mechanics and injury, and return-to-play rehabilitation best practices.
Long-term program goals include expanding clinic and community-based research activities with assistance of more research-trained associates.
Research and Education Partners
Increasing the scientific body of knowledge about sports medicine has been our vision since the beginning. With the knowledge that direct experience and scientific investigation support this focus, MSM facilitates and conducts research to establish the best practices in sports medicine and educate others about evidence-based sports medicine.
MSM initiated a $500,000 philanthropic target to support and invest in new research and education efforts. Guided by the recognition that MSM’s real success is found through partnerships with community organizations, industry, foundations and individuals, we are seeking research and education support to advance this vision.
Goals are to:
- Provide seed money to increase MSM’s ability to develop innovative research and clinical care programs
- Allow MSM to underwrite pioneering research initiatives
- Increase education and outreach efforts for sports medicine professionals and athletes
- Provide for physician- and physical-therapy training and education
